Computer Equipment Recycling & Security Program
Department of Defense Contractor
OSS-Spectrum Project is the ONLY non-profit e-Waste handling agency that is sanctioned
for the SECURE handling of Government and military equipment.
We receive over 1000 computers, monitors, perepherials and components a week.
Those computers that we can make work, are checked out, sanitized, new operating system and
software installed, and made available for our inter-agency re-donation program.
The OSS-Spectrum Project officers and staff are all ex-government or military personnel.
We maintained our DOD SECRET CLEARANCE until 1998. We are registered with, and accepted by
the Department of Defense for the "de-militarization" of Federally owned materials and
equipment.
We are active members of the Information Systems Security Association and the
American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS). In 2002, we wrote the guidelines for
data destruction and security. The OSS is the only facility accepted by City National Bank to
safely handle their electronic data destruction.
Our de-militarization process is fully documented under DOD/DLA Forms DD 1639, DD 1149 and
DLA 1822.
Donations to other agencies
We receive and address donation requests from other agencies and outreach groups for computers
on a per need basis. Our training program is now open to senior citizens as well as people with
disabilities. Our motto is "vets helping vets", but it could be "recycling people, one computer at a time!"
