e-Waste Collector FAQ?

1.         Why should I collect e-Waste through license by the OSS-Spectrum group?

A.         Anyone can collect electronics waste and obtain their own buyers of the materials, but if you work with us, it will certify you immediately, and provides safe & legal disposal for your materials.  Working under an OSS license, guarantees a legal buyer for your collected e-Waste, as well as providing training, and the ability to issue an IRS tax donation slip.

2.         What is the benefit of issuing an IRS donation slip?

A.         By being able to provide the IRS slip, you can offer a receipt for the “Fair Market Value” of the materials donated rather than paying for them.

3.         What does “Turn-Key Operation” mean?

A.         We provide to our licensee a complete package of software and firmware that will allow you to set up your business within 24 hours.  It includes an industry specific accounting program and complete training

in how to operate an e-Waste collection site.

4.         The State requires “Free and Convenient Handling of e-Waste”, how do I make any money from that?

A.         That is only for the collection and handling of CRT devices.  It does not exclude you from charging a handling charge.  It also has no provision for the collection and handling of non-CRT devices for which you will receive payment from the OSS.

5.         Why become a licensee when I can do it my self for free?

A.         You can also become a brain surgeon by reading a book, but if you take the time for a formal education, you will be better prepared and have less problems when you start your company.  As an OSS licensee, you will have the benefit of telephone support and the ability to visit the OSS facility for continuing training and license support.

6.         The State provides free certification as an e-Waste handler, what does the OSS provide?

A.         The State certification process takes 3-6 months to complete.  As a licensee, you become certified immediately.  The OSS has over 25 years in e-Waste handling experience, we helped write the AB1543 and SB-20 laws.  Our background in e-Waste processing will help our licensee compete better in proposals and contract negotiations.

Running an e-Waste collection business is like running any small business, it takes work.  Being a licensee makes the process easier because you will have trained staff walking you through every step of the operation.
