I can't begin to tell you how well things went this past quarter.
And we did it together!
Our idea of creating and publishing a local newspaper to promote environmental
issues and e-Waste recycling has taken on a life of its own.
It is called "The Foothills Paper". We are now publishing weekly and
We have a readership of over 30,000 and have created a paper that is really in demand.
Our homeless recycling program (no, not recycling the homeless) is bringing
in about 30 discarded CRT devices a month.
Our idea is this, if a homeless person, who is pushing a grocery
cart around town looking for cans and bottles, finds a discarded
television, CRT monitor or computer, and brings it to us for a
$5.00 bounty, everyone wins.
We are actively working with the Waste Managements Bradley Landfill to reduce the
amount of illegal e-Waste being dumped hidden in containers of debris.
We got a new used Nissan forklift and it runs on propane. No more eye irritation
when working in close quarters. I never thought that we'd need two forklifts to run
our operation.
We have located more agencies that need computers in their program. We have
initiated a policy of cross donations. You send us someone to help us out for
a few hours, we give you a complete computer system for your project.
Yvonne Burke, Supervisor for Council District 2, has partnered with us to provide computer systems
to County Foster Childrens Homes. Our pilot project is running twenty systems a month
until we finalize our logistics routes. Then we will be up to fifty systems a month.
Talk about recycling!
I love that old saying, "If you can read this - thank a teacher.
If you can read this in English - Thank a veteran!
